I hoped that Jess wasn’t too cross that I’d not mentioned that the confessions had come via her, but I’d detected some resentment toward her from Paula and didn’t want it making any worse. Given the currently unstable situation I had with my former fuck buddy, I was trying to satisfy her at work while I refused to outside of it. It wasn’t ideal, but while ever there was a spy in the midst and my career on the line, that was how it had to be.

I therefore wasn’t surprised when it was Anthea who brought in the next confession. Jess had clearly knocked and run.

Placed in a plain manilla envelope, I drew out the next pages. Clipped to the top was a note from the author.
